Planning a Wedding and choosing the right Florist (Part 1)

There are too many choices and decisions to be made when planning the perfect wedding. However, at least one area of wedding planning should be fun and uncomplicated: "The Wedding Flowers". This article will show some of the ways to make planning wedding flowers easy and stress free.

First consultation with The Flower Pot

The first and most important step is to arrange an appointment with a professional florist. We will help you cover most aspects of the wedding, including your budget. However, it is important that you start thinking about flowers least six months before the wedding, and consider some or all of the points raised in this article.

Before your first consultation, we suggest you visit the wedding section on our website, showing images of some of our recent weddings (Montreal Weddings). Look at the style and type of weddings we have done. Then gather the following information to make it easier for us to suggest the appropriate décor:

  • Pictures of flowers from bridal magazines that appeal to you.
  • A list of flowers you like and dislike. Find out what seasonal flowers are available for the wedding. If the flowers are rare, out of season, or exotic, chances are the prices will be higher and blooms more difficult to find.
  • Pictures of the bridal gown, bridesmaids' dresses, samples of the dress fabrics.
  • Pictures of the wedding cake, if possible, this will help in planning the décor for the cake and cake table.
  • A list of members of the wedding party. These are the people for whom corsages or boutonnieres should be provided. They include the maid of honor, bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, fathers, mothers and grandparents.

Other things we will need to know:

  • The mood and feeling you would like to create?
  • Dramatic and sophisticated?
  • Elegant and romantic?
  • Casual and upbeat?
  • Should the ceremony and reception be similar?
  • Is any part of the wedding taking place outdoors?
  • What is your budget for flowers?

Quite often, we will be familiar with the venue for the wedding, however, it's a good idea to collect the following information:

  • A floor plan of the sites for the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception.
  • What kinds of banquet equipment, such as tables and linens, are available at the wedding reception
  • Names of the staff people with whom you've spoken.

Although the planning of wedding flowers is not simple, it doesn't have to be difficult. With adequate preparation and a little forethought, combined with our expertise, the planning process can be as smooth as a silk wedding dress and you will have created the kind of beautiful memories that last a lifetime.
